As you may know, Toronto City Council approved a bylaw making it mandatory for property owners to disconnect their downspouts from the sewer system. The goal is to reduce the risk of basement flooding and decrease the release of polluted rainwater runoff into local waterways.
The bylaw comes into effect in three phases – the downspout disconnection deadline for Phase 3 is December 3, 2016. Downspouts in all areas of the city should be disconnected by this deadline.
Part of Ward 25 is included in Phase 3 – if you’d like to see a map of the three phase areas, pleaseclick here.
This month, information packages will be delivered to property owners in the Phase 3 area.
