Crime and Safety Update
From the break and enters in York Mills to vehicle thefts in Davisville Village and Leaside, crime and safety remain important issues in Ward 15.
As we approach the holiday season, here are some preventative tips and strategies from Toronto Police Services (TPS) to keep your property safe if you plan on being away from home:
Make your home look "lived-in" by:
arranging for a neighbour to park in your empty driveway and make tracks in the snow to and from your front door;
using timers to maintain normal lighting patterns;
temporarily halting mail delivery; and
asking a neighbour to put a garbage bin in front of your house on collection day.
Store car keys near the back of your home or in a microwave to prevent the key fob signal from being picked up.
Contact your divisional Crime Prevention Officers for assistance developing a customized home security strategy.
Contact your local TPS division for more information on starting a Neighbourhood Watch Program in your community.
This year, City Council also approved funding to hire over 300 new officers to join the TPS ranks. This comes in addition to the funding for 200 new officers that was approved in 2018 – meaning that there will be more than 500 new pairs of boots on the ground to ensure Toronto communities, including Ward 15, remain safe.
