Park Updates

Georgia Walsh Memorial Playground at Trace Manes Park:
I'm pleased to announce that after years of hard work and extensive community involvement, construction of the Georgia Walsh Memorial Playground at Trace Manes Park is officially completed!

The Georgia Walsh Memorial Playground was built to memorialize and celebrate the life of Georgia Walsh. It features a contemporary play structure, splash pad, shade structure, water bottle-filling station, improved pathways and landscaping, and a donor recognition wall to be installed in the spring.

I want to sincerely thank Jillian Walsh for her incredible leadership and vision throughout this process, as well as the generous donors who funded the project. It was a pleasure to work with you.

I am looking forward to hosting an official playground opening when it is safe to gather again.

R.V. Burgess Park:
Over the last few months, my team has worked closely with the Thorncliffe Park community to refine the design for R.V. Burgess Park using the feedback we collected from the Resident Working Group this spring. In the short time I've represented Thorncliffe Park, I've significantly expanded the scope of the project by allocating additional funding that nearly doubled the original budget.

Instead of just replacing the existing playground, we are now transforming the park. The new design includes separated junior and senior play structures, adult fitness equipment, a water bottle filling station, natural play features, new planted areas and pathways, an upgraded storm water drainage system, and more seating options.

I'm pleased to advise that the construction contract was awarded in late December. The project is scheduled to begin in spring 2021, weather permitting.

You can access the official project webpage for background information on the engagement process to-date, finalized plans, and for future updates as the project progresses at www.toronto.ca/R.V.BurgessPark.
