Automated Speed Enforcement
In April 2021, the City's 50 Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) devices issued a total of 22,635 tickets, 1,506 of which were for repeat offences.
As the former Chair of Public Works and Infrastructure, I led the implementation of Toronto's Road Safety Plan and ASE program. Last term, I moved to lift the decades-long moratorium on the creation of new Community Safety Zones (CSZs) to reduce aggressive driving and speeding in areas with higher concentrations of school children. This was a critical step forward as Provincial legislation requires ASE to be implemented in designated CSZs.
At the beginning of June, all 50 devices started enforcement at the third round of locations across the City to help reduce speeding in school zones across Toronto.
