Crosstown LRT Community Benefits Program

As Metrolinx enters the final phases of construction on the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, the TTC will be recruiting employees to operate and service the new line. The employment opportunities created by the introduction of a new, high-order transit line present a unique opportunity to localize the benefits of this project.

For this reason, I seconded a motion last fall at the TTC board asking staff to look at introducing a Community Benefits Program targeting Neighbourhood Improvement Areas (NIAs) along the line for Crosstown LRT hiring as part of the 2022 Outreach Plan. This Plan will involve additional outreach efforts—such as advertisements and job fairs —in NIAs along the Crosstown LRT, including Thorncliffe Park.
