Park Updates

100 Ranleigh Avenue
On May 7, my office hosted an official opening event for the new park at 100 Ranleigh Avenue. Thank you to everyone who attended – it was so great to celebrate this fantastic new amenity with the community.

The new park includes a large, open green space surrounded by a thin path and several amenities, including flower beds, fitness equipment, new seating and gathering areas, and a solar-powered lamp post. You can learn more about the engagement process and view finalized plans, here.

R.V. Burgess Park
The ambitious R.V. Burgess Park Renovation Project in Thorncliffe Park was officially completed in fall 2021.

Over the last few years, my team has worked closely with City staff and the Thorncliffe Park community to refine the design for R.V. Burgess Park using the feedback we collected from the Working Group. Thank you to all those who were involved.

In 2019, I significantly expanded the scope of the R.V. Burgess Park project by allocating additional funding that nearly doubled the original budget. Instead of just replacing the existing playground as initially planned, we completely transformed the park. I also made sure that the community would remain well-served by outdoor amenities throughout the construction period by asking City staff to review the programming offered at other nearby parks.

I am looking forward to hosting an official park opening with the community later this month!

Longwood Park
The City is enhancing the playground at Longwood Park.

Concept park designs have been established and an online visioning survey took place in mid-February to collect community feedback and determine priorities for the project. A summary of the results will be released shortly.

Detailed design development is currently underway and construction is anticipated to begin later this year. To learn more about the project, click here.

939 Eglinton Avenue East
I am pleased to announce that there will be a new park coming to Leaside, located at 939 Eglinton Avenue East.

An online visioning survey was undertaken in mid-November to collect community feedback and determine priorities for the project. Over 540 responses were recorded and a summary of the results will be released soon.

On December 1, I met with the Leaside Residents' Association and City staff to discuss preliminary community feedback. Detailed park design development is underway and construction is anticipated to begin in 2023. 21 Southvale Drive
As part of the planning process for the residential development located at 660 Eglinton Avenue East, 21 Southvale Drive has been designated as an off-site parkland dedication.

The developer has now completed fencing and grading as part of the required work to return the property to "base park condition." Sodding will be completed once approval for servicing the site is established. The land is expected to be conveyed to the City within the next year and is anticipated to be added to the Capital Budget for 2023.

The City plans to look at 21 Southvale Drive and the Leaside Memorial Gardens property as a whole and will engage in public consultation on the design for the space.

Mud Creek Restoration
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is planning to undertake channel restoration work along Mud Creek in the Moore Ravine, along the Beltline Trail between Heath Street East and Governors Road.

The proposed work will include channel regrading/filling and construction of rock vortex weirs, an armourstone retaining wall, and a vegetated rock buttress. Set-up for construction began on January 24, 2022 and work is anticipated to continue into summer 2022.
