Park Updates
Longwood Park
The City is enhancing the playground at Longwood Park.
Concept park designs were established in early 2022 and an online visioning survey took place in mid-February to collect community feedback and determine priorities for the project. You can find a summary of the results, here.
Construction of the playground is currently underway, with play equipment and safety surfacing anticipated to be installed before the end of the year. The park is expected to be open to the public shortly after. You can keep up-to-date with the project, here.
176 Broadway Avenue
Over the last year, my team has worked closely with Parks staff to determine the scope of the new parkette at 176 Broadway Avenue (formerly known as 174-180 Broadway Avenue).
Initial community consultation was undertaken last summer in the form of an online visioning survey, with nearly 600 responses recorded. You can download the full survey summary report, here. Focused community consultation took place this fall in the form of a virtual public meeting, online survey, and a pop-up event.
Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2023. You can access the official webpage for background information on the engagement process to-date, plans, and future updates as the project progresses, here.
Redpath Avenue Parkette
Last term, I asked City staff to prioritize a revitalization plan for Redpath Avenue Parkette.
Initial community consultation was undertaken in September 2021 as part of City Planning's Ready, Set, Midtown study. Focused consultation is scheduled to begin early next year and will follow a 3-phase process – Building a Vision, Exploring Design Options, and Setting the Direction.
You can learn more about the project and keep up-to-date with upcoming community meetings, here.
939 Eglinton Avenue East
A new park is coming to Leaside, located at 939 Eglinton Avenue East.
An online visioning survey was undertaken last fall to collect community feedback and determine priorities for the project. Detailed design is currently underway and construction is anticipated to begin in 2023.
The proposed work will include a heritage hub incorporating local history, an outdoor amphitheatre, a rain garden, and a tree grove with a walkway. To learn more about the proposed site plans, background information, and access current updates, click here.
21 Southvale Drive
As part of the planning process for the residential development located at 660 Eglinton Avenue East, 21 Southvale Drive has been identified as an off-site parkland dedication.
The developer has now completed the work necessary to return the property to "base park condition." The land is expected to be conveyed to the City within the next year and is anticipated to be added to the Capital Budget for 2023.
The City plans to look at 21 Southvale Drive and the Leaside Memorial Gardens property as a whole and will engage in public consultation on the design for the space.
