Opening Letter

Dear Friends and Neighbours,
 
If the groundhog is to be believed, it looks like spring may be on the horizon in Toronto. While this has been an unseasonably warm winter, I know we are all looking forward to longer days and higher temperatures.
 
This month, the City of Toronto supported a variety of events to celebrate Black History Month, including the Lifting Voices for Belonging programs hosted by the Toronto History Museums, a series of presentations and panel discussions organized by the Toronto Public Library, and a variety of special exhibitions at the Clark Centre for the Arts.
 
In this newsletter, you can find a variety of updates on local and city-wide initiatives, such as efforts to address vehicle theft, the restoration of windrow clearing services in the 2024 Budget, and the FIFA World Cup 2026 match schedule. I have also included information on the planned resurfacing of Eglinton Avenue. After years of disruptive construction by Metrolinx, Ward 15 residents will be pleased to know that pavement restoration is anticipated to be complete by 2025. You can read more below.
 
Finally, my team and I are working hard to finalize dates for the 2024 Ward 15 – Don Valley West Community Environment Days. Each year, these popular events divert a significant amount of waste from landfill. Last year alone, the City collected over 75,000 kilograms of electronics, 295,000 kilograms of household hazardous waste, and 63,000 kilograms of reusable household goods. I look forward to sharing the dates of our local events with you soon.
