Tree Planting in Ward 15
Research has demonstrated that there is a direct correlation between the well-being of our City and the strength of our tree canopy. When our urban forest thrives, Toronto is a more healthy, liveable, and resilient city.
In Toronto, we're fortunate to have one of the densest urban tree canopies in the world. The City's 2018 Tree Canopy Study indicated that Toronto's canopy coverage has increased from 26.6% to 31% percent over the last decade, representing an increase from 10.2 to 11.5 million trees.
This past spring, over 325 native trees and shrubs were planted in the Vyner Greenbelt near Silvergrove Road. These trees will not only help our City become 'more green and less gray', but also help protect local ecosystems, improve Toronto's resilience to climate change, and prevent the spread of invasive species.
